Ghana's cocoa regulator COCOBOD has responded to reports that it has approved the purchase of some keyboards at a price of GHC4,500. In a statement released on Monday, April 1, 2024, COCOBOD vehemently denied sourcing the keyboard.

According to a statement from the Public Relations Department, there were no transactions related to the purchase of the controversial keyboard which totaled more than GHC67,000.

An uproar erupted on social media after a February 26, 2024 memo to finance directors was published online. The memo called for the purchase of 15 iPad keyboards for COCOBOD board members at a proposed price of GHC4,500. For many, the price was too high and some considered the purchase unnecessary.

"The request to purchase iPad keyboards was based on the Board's adoption of the 'CONVENE' App which is part of efforts to reduce the use of paper and stationery during board meetings, while at the same time, enhancing productivity and collaboration among members," the statement explained.
